Wood Group offshore strike action intensifies

Strike action involving Wood Group offshore workers intensifies today (3 November) as part of a series of stoppages on assets operated by Harbour Energy.

The dispute with the Wood Group is based on the company’s decision to slash the pay, and conditions of dozens of workers including the issuing of fire and rehire notices.

The latest round of 48-hour strike action started at 00.01 hours and ends at 23.59 hours on 4 November. Unite can confirm that a further 48 hour period of strike action will take place on 17 to 18 November over the same hours.

Sharon Graham Unite general secretary said: “Unite will not accept or tolerate the Wood Group slashing our members’ pay and conditions. It is disgraceful that this profitable company has issued fire and rehire notices to dozens of workers. Our members will have their union’s support at every stage in their fight.”

The Harbour Energy platforms impacted by the industrial disruption include on the Britannia, Jasmine, Judy, Lomond and North Everest. The workers include electrical, production, instrument and mechanical technicians.

The Wood Group made post-tax profits amounting to $3 million in 2024, and 2023 which is the equivalent to a current exchange value of £2.3 million.

Unite industrial officer Vic Fraser said: "Our members have no option but to escalate their strike action. The Wood Group are behaving like a rogue employer. The action including the overtime ban is undoubtedly having a direct impact on the operations of Harbour Energy’s assets as will future escalated action.”
